Welcome to this very important website in the history of our development as a nation and in light of the global challenges which we face in the Caribbean and abroad.
This website is geared to advancing the body of knowledge on the issues of children and adolescents in the Caribbean. It recognizes that all over the world the main issues will be similar but that the cultural context has a great part to play in not only the healing process but in the restoration of the wholeness of the individual.
It further acknowledges that there has to be a separation in treatment and systems applied to the resolution of the issues of children and adolescents.Yes, more than before are parents seemingly finding it challenging to cope with parental issues. Just think of a scenario recently aired on our local television station. A mother was seen beating her child with a machete, amidst the cries of the child. The news report was said to be questionable and the woman set free, after going to court. Another story aired locally, showed a woman and several children living in a ramshackle building. She gets no help from the fathers of the children, so the appeal was going out to well-wishers to make monetary donations to the family. So, what are we to do? The answers vary. Some would want the children to be placed in a children’s home because they believe that even with help the woman would not be able to provide for the children.
